Lawrence L. Gilliam

Lawrence L. Gilliam, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:00 P.M., Monday, October 4, 2004 at his residence.
Lawrence was a meat processor at Du Quoin Packing Company for thirty years.  He was a member of the First Christian Church in Du Quoin.  He was a member of I.O.O.F. Lodge for over fifty years.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II.
He was born April 15, 1917 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Samuel E. and Dora M. (Knight) Gilliam.
He married Mildred Dudley on April 18, 1936 at Benton, IL and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2002.
He is survived by two daughters - Linda Goodman of Cape Girardeau, MO and Judy Payne of Du Quoin, eight grandchildren - Jill Asbury and husband Bill of Du Quoin, Charles Payne of Du Quoin, Jennifer Robison and husband Les of Du Quoin, Leslie Ann Meyer and husband Jim of Grays Lake, IL, Cindy Schott and husband Jeff of Kelso, MO, Karen Orta and husband Chuck of Cape Girardeau, MO, Deborah Eaves and husband Dan of Du Quoin and Debra Coffman and husband Tim of Anna, fourteen great grandchildren - Caitlin Asbury, Lindsay Asbury, Emily Asbury, Brenna Asbury, Chuckie Payne, Lauren Payne, Miranda Payne, Katherine Robison, Madeline Robison, Britney Schott, Mariah Schott, Joe Meyer, Christopher Orta, and Jennifer Orta and five step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two son-in-laws - Bob Payne and Kenneth Goodman and three brothers - Jasper Hinckley, Maurice Hinckley and Harlan Hinckley.
Funeral services were at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 7, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Dr. John Lewis officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites were conducted.
Friends may make memorials to the American Heart Association.
